Revatio Named as new Pfizer PPH Treatment
In December 2004 Pfizer Inc submitted regulatory filings in the United States and Europe for Revatio (sildenafil citrate) as a treatment for pulmonary hypertension. According to the filing, clinical trials conducted throughout the world showed sildenafil 20 mg taken three times a day is effective in treating patients with PPH. These patients showed improved physical ability as measured by increased walking distance over a six minute time interval. These PPH Patients on (Revatio) sildenafil also showed a reduction in blood pressure in arteries of the lungs and an increase in cardiac (heart) output. These early findings demonstrate promise and larger clinical trials using (Revatio) sildenafil as a treatment of pulmonary hypertension are being developed.
